State Announces Partnership with Maryland Casinos to Promote Small Business Opportunities

ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Governor’s Office of Small, Minority & Women Business Affairs today announced multiple small business outreach events in partnership with three Maryland casinos. Beginning on September 11 and continuing through the month, small business owners and certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) firms will have the opportunity to learn how to do business with Rocky Gap Casino and Resort in Cumberland, Hollywood Casino in Perryville, and Ocean Downs Casino in Ocean City.

“Relationships drive business,” said Jimmy Rhee, special secretary of the Governor’s Office of Small, Minority, and Women Business Affairs. “This is a great opportunity for small and minority business owners to begin building relationships with buyers in a sector still experiencing growth here in Maryland.”

Maryland’s casinos purchase a diverse range of goods, including uniforms, furnishings, computer equipment, disposable restaurant supplies, security and AV equipment, and promotional products. Additionally, the casinos need a variety of services such as printing, linens, HVAC, landscaping, and snow removal.

“We’re eager to meet with small business owners who want to work in this industry,” said Tim Shea, vice president of operations at Hollywood Casino Perryville. “We know that firms who come out to meet with us at this event are serious about building good business relationships.”

Outreach events are open to all small business owners and will be held on three consecutive Wednesdays in September. The first will take place at Rocky Gap Casino & Resort on September 11, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Advance registration is preferred.
